A recent tweet from an official of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs hinted at India’s move to introduce chip-linked ePassport.

While no official confirmations are available yet, the tweet gives a brief overview of the upcoming epassport, which is expected to have a chip to save biometric information of the passport holder, which will facilitate passage through immigration posts globally.

The e-passport will be printed at the India Security Press in Nashik and will include mandatory specifications for passport as prescribed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

It is hoped that a chip-embedded e-passport will soon be introduced in India. Updates regarding will soon be posted as fast as available.
